Precautionary closure of C-building of location Kralingse Zoom

After the fire in the Grenfell Tower in London, Rotterdam University of Applied took the initiative to investigate the fire safety of the facade covering of its buildings. This investigation revealed doubt about the fire safety of the facade panels attached to the C-building of the Kralingse Zoom location. Based on these findings, the school commissioned an independent investigation. The final report of this investigation is expected next Wednesday, however, the first findings show that the facade panels of the C-building do not meet the current fire safety standards. Based on these signals, the school decided to take fire prevention measures.

At this moment Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences cannot offer the certainty that the C building is sufficiently safe for students, staff and other users. This evening, Wednesday 10 January, the school has therefore decided to immediately suspend all activities in this part of the KZ location and to close off the C-building. Based on the results of the final report, the need for any long-term measures and what this means for the use of the C-building, will be determined. The main users of the C-building are staff members and 3,500 students of Rotterdam Business School.

    Adjusted schedules

All classes and exams scheduled in the C-building on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 January are cancelled. Scheduled thesis defences will take place as planned. These students will be informed about their new classroom at the KZ location.

Regular education will be resumed from Monday 15 January at another location. Students and staff will be further informed about this. For questions they can contact the Administration Office of their study programmes.

The other buildings of the Kralingse Zoom location, including the recently opened new building, meet all fire safety requirements. The lessons planned in other buildings of KZ will therefore continue according to the regular schedule.

Chairman of the Executive Board, Ron Bormans: "We realise that this is a severe measure, but the safety of our employees and students is our main priority. We will do everything in our power to minimise the impact of this decision. All parties involved will be carefully informed about the progress. "
