    Interview with Nicole

International Business student - year 3

What was the main reason why you chose International Business (IB) at Hogeschool Rotterdam/Rotterdam University of applied sciences?

Back at high school, International Business seemed a good option for me because it was a great mix of both languages and business. I think that coming from high school it was very interesting to see how practical education can be done since the Romanian system, where I come from, is rather theoretical.

How do you experience the quality of education at International Business?

From my point of view, the quality is high in terms of lecturers, the building, and the facilities. Everything that our university offers is of very high quality, and I say that because it offers something for everyone.
The trickiest part often lies in the fact that while you may offer something exceptional to many people, it won't necessarily meet the needs of every individual or group. That is why I am pleased that International Business and the faculty give you the opportunity to personalize your study. You can choose what you want to study in terms of your extra language choice, the specialization, the internships, the interdisciplinary choices, the exchange, or the minor. There are plenty of choices! That steps up the game, don’t you think?

Can you tell us a little bit more about the support that you received from faculty and staff?

I believe we as students receive a lot of support. From our lecturers, our coaches, but also from the staff, and through the facilities at our building. I can say that I only have met people who were willing to help us. For example, at a certain point I had a problem with my account online, I went to the IT people at school, and they were really helpful. It seems like everyone is enjoying what they are doing at our university.

What do you like the most about studying International Business?

Apart from the fact that as a student you can try out different things, I think I did like the specialization opportunity most. Students should know that the regular International Business courses also continue. In my case, I chose supply chain as my specialization in year two. Next year, in year four, I will start my Minor International Logistics. In the end, you are equipped for a career in international business.

Do you have any tips for future students who would like to study International Business?

The sooner you start to work on your time management skills, the better. I think university, really provided me with the flexibility to develop myself both professionally and personally. You should really take advantage of university life. Start now and don’t wait until the end. You will thank me later.

How does the study programme prepare you for your future career or further study?

This programme prepares you well for the future in the sense that you can develop yourself in Business, Professional Academic Skills and Languages, so it gives you the opportunity to develop yourself on many fronts. And do know that you also learn more about sustainability and intercultural communication, which allows you to being able communicate well in a multicultural team.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I think I will continue doing something related to supply chain, probably in procurement. Additionally, I am considering starting my own business, serving as a third-party provider for major companies in Romania.
